Find out about a new photography project about men and boys in Wigan, and ways that you can get creative and get involved.
Seeing Eye to Eye is a new creative and community project by artist Sam Batley and Open Eye Hub Wigan & Leigh. It is all about identity and place. What does masculinity mean and what does it mean to be a man in our Borough here and now?
The project will be created with people from across the Borough, bringing in a range of ideas, voices and perspectives – and the result will be a new photography and media exhibition to be shown next year.
Join Sam and the Open Eye Hub team where they’ll talk about the project and you can pick up a free creative activity box that contains ideas, instructions and equipment so you can get involved.
Is this for me?
We really want as many people as possible to get involved, and you might want to come along to this event if you:
- Are a man from the Borough who may be up for sharing your experience or what being a man means to you
- Work with, or run a group with, men and boys – you’ll take away a creative pack that you can do as a thoughtful, interesting and creative activity with the people in your group
- Are interested in the questions the project is exploring – you might not know exactly how you feel about it now, but would like the space to think about it and explore further
- Have an interest in photography or socially engaged/community-led creative processes
- Are keen to find out a bit more about this project or meet new people locally – there’ll be free refreshments and time to chat to other people
What will I get out of it?
We hope that by coming along and getting involved you will:
- have the chance to explore your creativity and learn a bit more about photography – the packs are a way that you can share as much, or as little, as you like in a way that feels comfortable and appropriate to you
- Bring your voice, ideas and perspective to this project to make sure it is representative of all of us here
- Hear more about other ways of getting involved – at the event we’ll also share about other ways to take part, including some interesting practical workshops Sam will be running
- Find out how you can contribute to a new public exhibition to be shown in the Borough next year
If you can’t make it but would still like to know more and are interested in getting involved, please email ben@openeye.org.uk.
