Rediscovering Urban Green Spaces
WEDNESDAY 23 FEBRUARY / 6-7PM / BOOK HERE
Convened by Alistair Small, the conversation will bring together Hilary Jack and Lizzie King – artists from the current You Belong Here: Artists Rediscovering Salford’s Green Spaces exhibition – with historian Carole O’Reilly to explore: the radical past, present and future(s) of urban green spaces, and the process of working with these places as sites of visual art production. The panel will also explore what potential roles we might envisage for public parks, particularly in mitigating the effects of the climate emergency, reflecting on land use in urban areas and the social value of urban green spaces.
Panellists:
Dr Carole O’Reilly, Senior Lecturer in Media and Cultural Studies, University of Salford;
Hilary Jack, artist and co-founder and Director of Paradise Works, Salford;
Lizzie King, Salford-based artist and University of Salford alumna.
Convened by Alistair Small, Digital Content and Engagement Officer, University of Salford Art Collection, who also works for Manchester Urban Diggers, a CIC working to turn underused land into urban community farms.
