PASSION PLAY: Rugby League World Cup Exhibition @ Open Eye Hub, Wigan Library
15 October - 27 November 2022
WIGAN LIBRARY / OPEN MONDAY – FRIDAY 10AM – 4-PM / SATURDAY 10AM-2PM
What does the build up to an international tournament like the Rugby League World Cup feel like for a sports fan?
Socially Engaged Photographer Emma Case has spent months working with a group from Community Integrated Care, working with them to become volunteer photographers at the Rugby World Cup. Once a fortnight they met over Zoom to chat and learn new skills in photography together. As a group they explored techniques such as light and composition along with how to take photos of a live sports event. As part of their time together the group began exploring their passions, the thrill of playing and watching rugby, and how this can be captured and translated in a photograph.
This exhibition is the result of their discoveries together and shows a glimpse into the process of collaborating through photography. Featuring work by Aaron Fairhead, David France, Joe Crammond, Katie Richardson, Kenzie Appleton, Matthew Price, Mark Whitaker, Mark Bellfield and Michael Duffy.
This project has been commissioned by Open Eye Gallery and Wigan Borough Council as part of the Open Eye Hub, supported by Wigan Borough Council and Community Integrated Care. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this exhibition.
