Ferry Folk
11 January - 25 March 2018
The Pier Head – Tom Wood is accompanied by a project called Ferry Folk, from artist and producer Elizabeth Wewiora. Working with Merseytravel as their artist-in-residence, she has been carrying out a socially engaged photography project on board the Mersey Ferry and around the ferry terminals.
The collaborative work she has produced features photographs and anecdotes that tell the stories of the commuters, tourists and staff on board the Mersey Ferry.
Outside Open Eye Gallery there is a large wall work, and inside the gallery’s foyer area is a series of audioscapes featuring interviews with passengers, Mersey Ferry staff and local over 60s group the Digital Ambassadors, available to listen to on headphones.
Work from this project also features at the Museum of Liverpool, with images available to browse on a specially made Viewfinder on the first floor. It is also online at photostories.org.uk, Open Eye Gallery’s open platform for photographers.
Special thanks to Merseytravel and National Museums Liverpool for supporting Ferry Folk.
Funded through Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts.
