Family Page
Welcome to our families page! Here you can find out more about getting involved with our new collaborative photography project with HMP Risley, NOVUS and artist Hafsah Naib.
An introduction from the project artist…
‘I’m Hafsah an artist working with communities of people to make art together in what is know as socially engaged practice. It’s a way of working that allows everyone involved to make connections and share our experiences to make art that holds some personal or social importance often powerful and transformative. Novus and Open Eye Gallery have commissioned me to run a photography project at Risley and I’ve been engaging participants through fun creative learning packs since Summer 2020.
It’s been a tough time for everyone during lockdown and more so for prisoners and their families. But things are changing, people like us are thinking about how to use photography to connect men with their families and we’re inviting you to become part of this journey with your significant other /family member.
This space is your space. It’s private and open only to family members whose significant individuals have signed up to be part of the “Photography in Prison” project at Risley. We will be uploading activities and information here that link directly to the work being done at Risley.’
We’d like to work with anyone who wants to learn about photography and how photography can create shared experiences providing they have clearances to do so and there is space available on the project. We encourage participants to also use this page to share their photography with Open Eye Gallery.
If you have any questions or thoughts about this work you can keep in touch with Emma from Open Eye Gallery via emma@openeye.org.uk or ring our landline on 0151 236 6768 where you can leave a message with your details and then we will look to ring you back as soon as possible.
