Digital Window Gallery: HOMETOWNS
“There beneath the blue suburban skies on a leafy strip of road in Allerton, all the way to the iconic Penny Lane, lies a cluster of small businesses that I’ve come to know and love — the places that make this area feel like home.”
Kat Monaghan, Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies
HOMETOWNS is an exhibition of images from personal archives describing an individual feeling of home and locality. The work is inspired by photographer Kat Monaghan’s series ‘Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies’, which documents the faces behind the independent small businesses which make up her local community.
In an open call, Kat Monaghan and Open Eye Gallery sought submissions from photographers all over the world asking ‘what does home mean to you?’. The resulting series HOMETOWNS explores that particular sense of belonging to an environment and expression of community, from Salford to Soweto. First displayed on our showcase site Open Eye Stories, these photographs are currently on display on our Digital Window Gallery.
