The Mutual Respect Manifesto by Glow Creative Learning

Artist Suzanne St. Clare, Glow Creative Learning and Creative Youth Development (Wirral Council) have been working in collaboration with Open Eye Gallery for the past eighteen months exploring ideas of love and mutual respect for oneself, each other and our planet.

Glow Creative Learning are a young people’s group from the Wirral who began responding to the idea of love through a set of provocations…

  • What does it mean to love and respect yourself and how can we support notions and understanding of self-care?

  • How do we evolve into the person we want to be through finding the love within us that motivates and inspires?

  • How can we ensure short-term and long-term love and care for the world around us, to ensure our planet is protected?

The work produced reflects a contemporary and personal view of what it means to love in society today and is formed from a series of video interviews with photographers Sarah Lee and Marketa Luskacova , known as the ‘Big Love Hot Seat’, a series of campaign posters which can be viewed in our gallery 2 window space, and a project zine. The group collaborated with a host of additional artists to produce the work including Tasha Whittle, Ivy Kalungi and Fauziya Johnson (from Root-Ed Zine).

We invite you to join GLOW and the participating artists for a series of public events throughout October including:

Monday 25th October – Sunday 31st October
GLOW Instagram takeover
GLOW will be doing a full week of Instagram takeovers @openeyegallery sharing highlights from their collaborative work exploring themes of love and mutual respect.

Wednesday 27th October 11-1pm & 2-4pm
Zine Making Workshop in Gallery 2
Join the GLOW group and artist Suzanne St Clare and get crafty with a mini zine workshop, where you can create your own ‘mini mutual respect manifesto’ based on ideas raised in the girls’ own project and our current main gallery exhibition ‘Collective Matters’.

This free event is open to all and a drop in, but please feel free to book on via Eventbrite HERE so we can prepare enough materials for everyone.

Thursday 28th October 6pm- 7pm via zoom (please book via Eventbrite HERE)
Online Launch of GLOW’s new Mutual Respect Manifesto Zine

We welcome you to join the GLOW group and project artists Suzanne St Clare, Ivy Kalungi and Fauziya Johnson as they celebrate the launch of their mutual respect manifesto zine, exploring ideas of love and respect for ourselves, each other and our planet.

Thanks goes to partners Creative Youth Development (Wirral Council) and TATE Liverpool learning and engagement team for their support to realise this programme.
