THURSDAY 28 APRIL / 12PM – 1.30PM / BOOK HERE
How can photography be used as a tool to re-ignite discussions around archives and collections, who are these archives for and whose story do they seek to tell? And what benefits are there to commissioning socially engaged approaches to exploring collections, working not only with photographers but partners beyond our own sector to explore the role of archives and collections today?
These are just some of the questions facing cultural organisations today and we would like you to join in the discussion too. SEPN members Redeye Photography Network and Open Eye Gallery have invited the University of Salford Contemporary Art Collection team to discuss their first socially engaged photographer in residence commission. The collection will discuss their approach to commissioning this type of work, and their cross sector partnership model for realising the programme. We will also hear from the current photographer in residence Gwen Riley Jones about the process so far and key community partner, Rosie Naylor, RHS Bridgewater Garden’s Community Engagement Coordinator.
