OPEN SOURCE 019: DREW FINDLAY
3 November - 30 November 2021
Round Are Way brings together two projects, Yes Playa and FC Lockdown, which focus on the community of the Four Heatons and Reddish from a patriarchal perspective; a community where friendships (and rivalries) are made on a football pitch.
After the sudden loss of an old teammate, Findlay connected and reconnected with the men he grew up with, intending to open the conversation about male mental health. The result was Yes Playa, a series of recorded conversations, places and people exploring the tenderness of masculinity. Paired with a series of portraits of the FC Lockdown U17s at the beginning of their adult story (which Findlay coaches), the ongoing body of work also becomes a portrait of the intricacies that make up a recognisably Northern town and the importance of supporting your team.
We remember Chris Greenhalgh, who helped spur the project on.
