Open Eye Gallery book club presents: Bila Yarrudhanggalangdhuray
THURSDAY 09 SEPTEMBER/ 6.30PM / ZOOM / BOOK HERE
Join Open Eye Gallery for a special book club event to compliment our current exhibition Whose Land Is It. We will be reading Bila Yarrudhanggalangdhuray by Anita Heiss and discussing it in relation to our exhibiting works by James Tylor, Atong Atem and Amanda Williams. We will talk through themes of ownership, belonging, land and water rights, and the environment.
Set in the 1850s, Bila Yarrudhanggalangdhuray by Anita Heiss opens with Murrumbidgee river breaking its banks and flooding the town, leaving its residents to cope with the outcome. We follow the story of Wagadhaany as she leaves her town and begins a slow process of healing while searching for her own history.
We encourage book club goers to have read the book and visited Whose Land Is It in our gallery or virtually, however it is not essential to join the discussion.
