MWALULA – HELLEN SONGA @ LIVERPOOL GROWING SPACES
11 July - 4 September 2022
“This is just the beginning”, Dad said.
MWALULA is a documentation of Mwalula Green-Life Farm, a permaculture, plant-based, organic farming project located in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. The project was produced while Hellen Songa visited their father’s, Chileshe, home country after 23 years of separation. Despite the difference in location and culture, both reconnected on their similar interests in farming, conservation, and community building. The farm is run by Chileshe and directed with Hellen.
Alongside a display in Open Eye Gallery’s gallery 3, more of MWALULA will be shown in four public, food-growing settings in Liverpool- Faiths4Change, Hope Community Garden, Friends of Everton Park, and John Archer Hall, where many of the portraits of Volunteer Voices: Liverpool Food Growers Network were captured. See more of Volunteer Voices here.
Locations:
Roots in the City Community Garden – Upper Pitt St, Liverpool L1 5BD (at St Michael in the City Church)
John Archer Hall – John Archer Hall, 68 Upper Hill St, Liverpool L8 1YR
Friends of Everton Park – Prince Edwin St, (Off Netherfield Road)
Hope Community Garden – St Margaret’s Church, Princes Road, L8 1TG
