LATE NIGHT OPENING: COLLECTIVE MATTERS
FRIDAY 15 OCT, 5 – 10PM
Drop in, or register here.
Join us for a late night opening of our current exhibition Collective Matters.
What’s on:
Collective Matters celebrates and reflects upon a series of socially engaged projects developed over the past two to three years across the North West region. Over this time, artists and communities have come together to explore how photography can be used as a tool for self-expression, reflection and resilience in what is becoming an ever increasingly isolated world. What has come from these various collaborations is a testament to the fact that with creativity comes purpose, belonging and a space to create new conversations about the people and places around us. Read more about the exhibition here.
In our atrium space:
Holding the Baby is a project by artist Polly Braden, inspired by the United Nations poverty expert Philip Alston who came to the UK in 2019 to look at the effects of austerity. He concluded that single parents have been hardest hit. Over the last two years Polly has worked with Fran, Jahanara, Charmaine, Aaron, Barbeline, Caroline, Gemma, Carike and their children to represent each of their stories. These photographs have been made in collaboration: sometimes even taken by the parents themselves, after Polly has set up the camera. They capture their optimism, creativity, ambition and resilience, transcending the often difficult situations they face. Read about the exhibition here.
