Join us for the launch of My Message to You, an exhibition of photographs by Luke Bryant and film by Roberto Tovar in commemoration of World AIDS Day.
In partnership with Sahir House, 24 Kitchen Street has hosted a month-long programme of AIDS Quilt crafting workshops with textile artist Graeme Lavery. The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt is dedicated to remembrance of individuals who have lost their lives to AIDS related illnesses. It’s a moving, inspirational and irreplaceable piece of social history which tells the stories of many of those lost in the early days of the HIV AIDS epidemic in the 80s and 90s.
Sahir House and 24 Kitchen Street invited the public to come along to make their own commemorative panels, this exhibition is a small insight into the process of their intimate work. Panels from the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt will also be exhibited at 24 Kitchen Street from 1st – 5th December.
Luke Bryant is a photographer and visual artist, who has recently exhibited in collaboration with Homotopia Festival and All Out. Alongside physical crafters commemorating loved ones, Luke will be photographing the process to create a digital legacy of stories that haven’t had the chance to be told yet.
The exhibition will also feature the phenomenal short film My Message To You’ by Roberto Tovar. Although new HIV infections in England are coming down, this is not the case for members of the Latin American community. To help bring light, information and humanity towards these statistics, Metro Charity and NAZ partnered with London based, HIV+ filmmaker and artist Roberto Tovar from Número de Serie to showcase the life stories of 5 Latinx people living with HIV in England.
The exhibition is on Open Eye Gallery’s Digital Window Gallery and Forest stands, in the Mann Island atrium space between 1–17 December.
