You are warmly invited to a two-hour Deep Listening® Workshop to explore listening, sounding, dreaming and moving in the beautiful surroundings of Our Lady & St Nicholas’ Church Gardens, an oasis of calm between Liverpool’s waterfront and business district.

In this session, Knowsley based artist Clare Brumby will lead a Deep Listening® Circle in this beautiful space, aimed at cultivating and deepening the human connection to nature, through a collective exploration of Deep Listening® practices, as developed by composer-performer Pauline Oliveros (1932–2016) with Heloise Gold and IONE.

Deep Listening® offers ways to explore and expand our individual and community listening, awareness, attention and consciousness, with a particular focus on the interplay between the involuntary nature of hearing and the intentional nature of listening. Participants will be invited to join in a series of specially curated improvisational exercises with a focus on nature, including sonic meditations, listening through moving, listening through dreaming, and performing and creating text scores, to cultivate a heightened awareness of listening deeply and expansively. Through these playful, collaborative and community building practices, we’ll create our own environmental dialogues whilst considering care for ourselves and the climate, through deeply listening to the land.

This workshop is open to anyone (18+) wishing to explore listening and sounding inspired by the sounds of daily life, nature, the environment, our own thoughts, imagination, and dreams. Everyone is welcome and no previous experience or ability is necessary.

Clare Brumby is an undisciplined artist and ‘Eartified’ Deep Listening®  Workshop Facilitator, and is supported by The Center for Deep Listening® at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA. She currently runs Deep Listening® events under the name Sonic Peace.

This event is part of LOOK Climate Lab 2026, a biennial programme by Open Eye Gallery.
