Let’s Grow Preston
Digital Window Gallery / 16 August – 4 September
Tuesday – Sunday / 10AM – 5PM
Fiona Robinson is a photographer working in a socially engaged way, a final year student on the MA in Socially Engaged Photography at the University of Salford. Fiona has a background in ecology, public health and working with communities. This is Fiona’s first photographic residency, working with community gardening charity, Lets Grow Preston.
Through a series of workshops, a group of women have explored the gardens as they grow and change through the seasons, learning about a range of photographic concepts. The group have experimented with both digital and historic forms of photography. This included the simple and environmentally friendly Anthotype process, where plants made images of plants. The group grew spinach and used this to create the green photograms. Fiona also made images with poppies from the garden.
The images made during this process were shared in Ashton Walled Garden on Saturday 23 July and the documentation of this sharing day, and the wider project will be shared on our Digital Window Gallery at Open Eye Gallery as part of LOOK Photo Biennial 2022: Climate.
Let’s Grow Preston is an environmental Charity which aims to improve mental and physical wellbeing through volunteering within horticulture, you can read more about Let’s Grow Preston here.
