VISUAL METHODS IN THE FIELD

Book Launch – Visual Methods in the Field: Photography for the Social Sciences

31 MAY, 6-7:30PM

FREE

RSVP HERE

Join author Dr Terence Heng (Sociology, University of Liverpool), with Dr Paul Jones (Sociology, University of Liverpool) and Professor Caroline Knowles (Goldsmiths, University of London) in discussion about the significance, applicability and increasing popularity of visual methods in contemporary social science research.

There will also be a short screening of three multimedia photo-essays on spirit mediumship and Chinese religion in Singapore, based on case studies found in the book.

Visual Methods in the Field: Photography for the Social Sciences is a photography guide written for researchers by a researcher. Using in-depth ethnographic case studies from research done in various urban environments, this book introduces photography as a qualitative method and explores common themes and topics where photography might work in social science research.

This event is related to current exhibition Snapshot to WeChat:  A Migration of Identity. The projects on show look at how new social identities are constructed through images.
