About Arts Groupie
ArtsGroupie was established in the wake of the ACE funded project ‘KITTY: Queen of the Washhouse’, which sold out over 1000 seats at St. George’s Hall, Liverpool. The production was taken around primary schools, where we facilitated history workshops with over 650 school pupils before the play went on a rural tour of Shropshire. – We work with a bank of creative freelancers and a pool of community volunteers. – In July 2019 AG secured funding from Torus Foundation and MyClubmoor to facilitate creative writing workshops for people over 60 in L13. In November 2019, we completed the ACE funded play and workshop project ‘WEAVE’, which explored the pressures of the beauty industry and social media on women, and online bullying. – In March 2020, we independently staged ‘KITTY’ again at St. George’s Hall, selling out and were in negotiations with several London venues, before COVID stopped our plans. – In response to the pandemic emergency of 2020, we recorded a public health address that promoted the social distancing messages using our Kitty Wilkinson character, who survived the Cholera epidemic of 1832 and this went viral with over 40,000 hits.
ArtsGroupie are currently developing sustainable models and practices around outdoor theatre work. We aim to create work that has a low environmental impact and unifies local communities to their green spaces. Creating ‘Community centres without Walls.’ We recently trialled a new way of working, running heritage walking tours to help towards funding our productions.
Horti/Culture is a collaborative project, Incredible Edible Knowsley teaches workshops around growing and AG provides the creative content. The work is conducted outdoors with the intention to encourage and inspire people to grow more and engage in cultural activity.
