Emerging Artist: Henry Woodley
Henry Woodley is a travelling freelance photographer/videographer with roots in Liverpool.

This series of work, Outsiders View, is a visual journey across Japan recording my travels over the course of four months I lived there. There are moments of craziness and moments of tranquillity, something that truly represents this beautiful, but often-alien country. I tried to simulate the journey I took, both mentally and physically, with these photographs. They traverse the neon inner-city of Tokyo to the beautiful and lonely islands of the Izu peninsula.
Through my photographic work I find great pleasure in exploring the real world at street level. I love collecting memories and capturing moments that will never be repeated. I feel that street photography is the best way of discovering a culture and finding and expressing unique points of view that may otherwise be overlooked or not captured.
Although my most recent published work is Outsiders View, I am currently working on a similar project within Liverpool aiming to capture the nature and spirit of Toxteth and the people that have made it one of the most interesting areas of the city. I prefer working outside a studio making connections with people at street level, rather than removing them from their natural environment where they are most comfortable.
My aim is to travel to Europe next year to continue to record and respond to my surroundings, and to continue exploring my passion for photography whilst pursuing a Master of Arts course in Photojournalism. I see many aesthetic similarities between my work and photojournalism and I hope to continue telling stories in this manner for the rest of my life.
