Video: Wo Bik Wong, Culture Shifts: Global
Wo Bik Wong’s photographs of the Port of Liverpool building (one of the Three Graces) look at the colonial stories stirring beneath the building’s architecture. She also considers the ways derelict spaces become renewed, photographing the world’s largest brick warehouse: the Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse.
Wo Bik Wong is one of Hong Kong’s leading female photographers. She has shown many times internationally, but less frequently in the West. Her work explores city spaces and buildings, particularly those on the verge of demolition or refurbishment. As buildings transform and become repurposed, Wong invites us to consider the past, present and future of a place all at once.
Culture Shifts: Global is an exhibition of Liverpool/ Hong Kong photography at Open Eye Gallery. 7 April – 18th June 2017.
